Editing

When editing my eBook I tried to add a variety of multimedia in order to make it more interesting and appealing to the audience/marker. In order to do so I did:

1) USE OF COLOUR
For editing my ebook I tried to use a variety of colours in each aspect, e.g netbooks, social networking etc. I did this so that I could provide contrast, appeal and interest for the reader to keep reading and marking the work. Here is a preview of the slides which you can see portrays a variety of colours being used:

2) IMAGES
I tried to incorporate as many images as I could in order to provide a clearer understanding for the audience of the words written as well as to add contrast and variety. Here is another snipped view for you to see how many images I have added to provide for clarity:

3) ANIMATION
If you haven't already noticed, then the amount of animations is quite a lot. I have done this to once again provide for interest for a viewer as well as more appeal and interest for them. Here is a glimpse of some of the animation that I have used on my ebook:

4) VIDEOS
Videos are yet another aspect I have decided to incorporate in my ebook. Although this is a lengthy process to do so it is not at all difficult. Here are the following steps I took in order to get videos on my actual ebook:
1) Go onto youtube :

2) Enter URL onto the website that converts videos

This is the URL of the site that I used to download youtube videos in a wmv format.

All you have to do to attain the video is, simply copy and paste that youtube link onto here :)!
3) Choose wmv file type

Although it says mp4 here you need to, in the same way I did click the drop down and click WMV, in order to gain a file that is compatible with powerpoint.

4) Upload onto powerpoint from Movie
Then simply upload it like you would with an image, but just click the MOVIE icon instead :D

WiFi

My last without any time at all I had soon reached my last aspect of the ebook, WiFi. For this aspect from personal experience, I already knew that their would be some sort of involvement with a router. But to gain further knowledge on this I researched this in order to find out more and here is what I found on how WiFi actually works:

1) A computer’s wireless adapter translates data into a radio signal and then transmits it using an antenna.
2) A wireless router then receives this signal and decodes it. The router also then send this information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection.
This transition of exchange can also happen visa versa.

Furthermore  the thing I found most interesting about WiFi was the Did you know facts? In one of them I found that one of the Countries in California called Sunnyvale, in which WiFi was offered city wide for free which has allowed the provider to earn a $1.2 million profit. In contrast to this, the thing I really was antiscipated to hear was that our WiFi speeds has the potential to provide raw data at the rates of 450 Mbps and 600 Mbps in the future. These are incredily fast speeds compared to the average house which only gets about 30-50 Mbps.

Now that I had finally finished with my information for my eBook it was time to edit everything and add some multimedia, in order to make the eBook more appealing !

CPUS

CPUS was something that although I had completed in class as tasks , I was still unfamiliar with. So before I specifically began researching on this I first searched up a proper definition for it and this is what I found:
  • central processing unit: (computer science) the part of a computer (a microprocessor chip) that does most of the data processing; "the CPU and the memory form the central part of a computer to which the peripherals are attached"
After I had found this I then began to research the multiple types of processors and the advantages and disadvantages of each. The differrent types I researched were single core, dual core, dual and multi core processors. The two things I found really interesting during this research were:

1) The difference between a dual core and a dual processor. I found it really interesting to find ut that a dual core is when two cores are compressed into one integrated circuit. Whereas a dual processor is when two  seperate physical CPUS are in the same chasis, instead of two on the same chip like a dual core processor.

2) Another thing I found really interesting was that CPUs are also used in phones. I always thought that CPUs were the brains of a computer, I never knew that they could be applied to the context of phones as well especially with an iPhone too!

Social Networking

Today (3/9/11) I began to research my second aspect/topic for my ebook. Social Networking is a part of multimedia that I am very familiar with, due to our society being exposed to it from a very young age. When creating this section the thing I found most challenging was the gathering of the information. It was something that was definitly challenging but also unavoidable, thats why I began searching right away! Once again the things that I found most fascitinating was the futuristics direction of this multimedia! The thing that fascinated me the most out of the things I found for the futuristic designs was the concept of controlling interface without actual physical movement in social networking.  This was quite an interesting aspect to hear about, and here is an image below which depicts how interaction between two devices may look like in order to increase social networking and its efficiency:

http://mashable.com/2009/06/01/social-media-future-tech/   this website is a very resourceful website in which the future directions of the social networking media can be determined and viewed.

In my social networking aspect I decided I would cover two examples that were well known to me, which was FACEBOOK and BLOGGER, as well as this I also thought I would use a social networking that would be something different as well as something I did not know of. From these thoughts I concluded that I would do eHarmony, something both innovative and interesting. Overall with these three various networking sites collaborated I got the opportunity to learn many interesting things about social networking sites and the way they function! Especially about the pricey expenses to join some of them, for example eHarmony for instance. However when balanced with the quality they promise to provide I felt that this price was fairly justified in its essence.

Now that this had been done and finished it was time for me to get cracking on the third one :)!

Problems Encountered

CONFUSION
With this assingment I believe the biggest issue was the fact on what to actually put on the assignments, especially with Social Networking. However since I was actually listening in class I was able to recall that online there are a few questions we can answer and include in our information. So I used this as a guide, in order to produce my work with adequate information that would teach something new to the mass media while simultaneously be entertaining.

In addition to this I was able to get advice from Mr Cavill in which he personally helped me on the information I could include and incorporate within each aspect I researched. One really good advice he gave me for CPUS was the Quantam Computing, which I probably wouldnt of found in a millineum if i tried!

Big time confusion!

WHATS MY INPUT OF THE ASSIGNMENT?

Overall I felt that the adversities I encountered during this assingment were minor and were not that difficult to deal with. Out of 5 I would rate this assignment a perfect 5 because during the process of creating this ebook I was able to learn a whole lot of new things which I did not know before and I was able to do so while having some fun!

Problems Encountered

FINDING FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
In addition to this finding future developments for a lot of the devices/media was quite a difficult process, especially with the Social Networking and CPUS. However thats when the advice of Mr Cavil and help for peers caloborated in order for me to be succesful  in finding this information. After speaking to Mr Cavil about my difficulty he advised me for CPUS that I  should have a look at 'Quantam Computing' which deals with the idea of CPUS being replaced merely by Qubits. This was quite an interesting aspect to look at it about how our computers/technology will be designed in the future.

Then Mr Cavil was able to advise me on what I should do for social networking. Since I could not find general information on what could be the future of social networking, he suggested I find specific information about sites that are thinking to develop something in the future, such as the face recognition feature of Facebook. As well as this Drishti was able to advise me on the types of things she found and how I could find them through searching through several pages as she stated she just kept flicking pages in order to find her information and she was finally sucessful in doing so.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON ONE PAGE
On the other hand once I had pasted all my information onto the powerpoint I realised that I had put too much information on one slide which had already been hyperlinked. In order to overcome this however I applied a very way, which was to duplicate that slide I wanted to split the information in and edit the hyperlink arrows and the slides they connected to when the forward/back arrow was pressed.

Even after this I had to go through my whole ebook in order to double check that each hyperlink thread flowed with the slide it was meant too, and was not muddled up like it had previously been.

Problems Encountered

TIME MANAGMENT
During this task assignment the biggest problem I found most difficult to challenge was the limitation of time. We were given around 7 weeks to complete this assignment, however due to being with other assesments and assignments I was unable to start this assignment between the time/period given to us.

How did I tackle this issue then? Although I could not do much to 'create' more time, I still adapted new ways to use my time efficently. I was succesful in doing so by going to the libary every morning and lunch in order to complete my work. As well as this despite this not being so great things such as staying up late and waking up early in order to get things done is another strategy I used. However I feel the most efficent strategy adapted by me which actually acted as a catalyst for me to complete this assignment, was the fact that I drew up a timetable. This was really efficent and handy as it guided me through on what needed to be done when and how it had to be done. This made it really easy for me to complete the assignment within the limited time, created by myself.

HYPERLINKING
Hyperlinking was yet another issue for me that I had to try and deal with in order to produce my ebook. But firstly when I first heard the word hyperlinking I straight away thought that adding icons which could lead to a website. However after discussing with Navneet I later found out that hyperlinking was in fact when you could simply link pages through just a few buttons and steps, as seen below:

So now that I now knew what was hyperlinking and how to use it my real adversity began, trying to hyperlink 133 slides! After doing about 20 or so slides I began to realise that this will be quite a lengthy process, with me hyperlinking the arrows, homepage, images etc. So thats when it occured  to be that there must be some sort of short cut I can adapt to in order to finish my work more quickly and in fact I was able to do so. Though this stategy did not work with the arrows it was still excellent for the homepage. Through the magic of the copy and paste button I realised I could race through my powerpoint, because if I copied an icon the hyperlink would still remain and also the position of the icon from which I copied it would be the exact same on the slide I pasted it. Hence making evident how my 'copy and paste' strategy not only allowed me to be able to hyperlink my whole ebook efficently but also while being able to save time.
