Handheld Devices

1. What are MID and UMPC devices? How do they differ. List atleast three examples of both types of devices & include images

MID stands for Mobile Internet Device and is designed to provide entertainment, information and location based services for the consumer market.
UMPC stands for Ultra-Mobile Personal Computer. However what makes it so exquisite is that it does not sit on your desk computer, nor does it sit on your lap, rather its is a hold in your hand computer. It is so small and lightweight that you can even hold it in your hands.
The main difference between both the devices is basically that MID devices are generally larger than a handheld device but smalller than the Ultra Mobile PC.

2.What are the differences between a Notebook handheld computing device and a Netbook handheld computing device?

Netbooks
  • A netbook screen is usually varies from 7-10 inches however a notebook screen varies from 12.1-17 inches.
  • A netbook operates with systems called Linux and Windows XP. Whereas a notebook operates in Windows XP, Window Vista and Dual Core Processor.
  • A netbook consists of a hardrive that can store from 4-80 GB . On the other hand a notebook has a hardrive ranging from 80-320 GB.
  • A notebook offers a DVD drive however a netbook does not.
  • A battery lasts for about 3-4 hours in a netbook and a notebook battery last for about 2 to 4 hours.

I would reconmend the 10" Graphic Tablet Computer Windows 7 CPU Intel Atom. Why is this so? Firstly here is a glimpse of the features:

Although the price is not mentioned, a consumer can contact the supplier to get further details.  Here is a link to the website from where an interested purchaser can gain more details:

I would personally reconmend this particular UMPC device as it is something which is both light, has a reasonable amount of memory on the hardrive (160 GB) and consists of multiple features such as ( an integerated card). Hence why this would be a great 10 inch UMPC device for a user to use!

Below are some following pictures, which also depict the exquisite design of the tablet which looks innovative and attractive to an everyday consumer:

3. Using the following sites, describe the design & features of the Apple Ipad then discuss how it compares with a Netbook.

It’s 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter, so it feels even more comfortable in your hands. As well as this it makes surfing the web, checking email, watching movies, and reading books so natural, you might forget there’s incredible technology under your fingers.
Compared to a Netbook? This is not so great due to the multiple features and flexibility of a netbook, which includes:

1) Netbooks are cheaper. The majority of them run between $200-$400. And after you spend all that money on accessories and upgrade options for the iPad, you'd be able to buy three netbooks for the same amount of money.
2) With a netbook, you can multitask, allowing you to run several apps at the same time.
3) Though it hasn't been confirmed that there is absolutely no Flash support in the iPad, we at least know netbooks have full Flash support.
4) Netbooks have USB ports, about two to three on average. The iPad has none.
5) Higher Resolutions. There are several 10-inch netbooks that offer 1,366-by-768 resolutions, namely the HP Mini 5102, Dell Mini 10, and Sony VAIO VGN W-Series. The iPad tops out at 1,024 by 768.
6) Netbooks have options for bigger screens. You can get one with an 11-inch or 12-inch widescreen.

4. Of the three handheld devices - Notebook, netbook & Ipad – which one would suit your needs and why?

I personally feel that notebooks would best suit my needs. This is because firstly it is a device which is easy to carry around, due to it coming in weights as light as 2.2 pounds! As well as this it is something which is capable of performing all possible functions that a computer can offer.

In addition to this for someone like me who needs to work on computers for long hours due to assignments, this is quite handy as it is portable and I can work with it wherever I like. Not only that but notebooks come in a number of varities which I can choose from and special features. Hence making a notebook most suitable to cater for my needs.

Which makes this device quite reasonable and enhanced with its features.

4. If I was looking for a UMPC device with a screen size of 10 in or less, which would you recommend? Justify your choice.
Personally if i had to reconmend a 10inch UMPC device I would reconmend this device:

Why i would do so? Because it offers many features such as :
